3 habits may hurt your automatic transmission
As the owner of an Isuzu D-Max 2020, I want to share you some suggestions on
forming good habits of using Automatic transmission. Automatic transmissions rule the
current auto world. Its smoothness and flexibility in shifting and practicality pleases
every driver. But we should never consider that they don't suffer from damage.
Without considerable care, they probably wear out and run into problems since they
are artificial. Next I will point out 3 bad habits that you should avoid in order to protect your automatic transmission.
1.Switching into the reverse direction while the car is still running. This often
happen in our daily driving, especially when we are in a hurry. It caused damage
to the clutch packs and bands of the transmission and shorten their longevity
largely. The correct practice is to switch to reverse or drive after the car is
completely suspended.
2.Revving the motor in neutral and then switch to drive. This is usually named
as a neutral drop. This is surely unacceptable. If you conduct this regularly, you
are at high risk of sending your car to the repairing station. This act will coerce
the parts of transmission like clutch packs and bands to undertake pressure
that they are not able to withstand. Please promise not to do this again if you
don't want to torture your transmission. The right thing you should do is not
to rev your engine before your switch to drive.
3.Switching to park while the car is in motion. A few times of this act is tolerable.
Your transmission may not run into problems. But if you do this too much,
the result could be devastating. Let's focus on a specific part in the automatic
gearbox, which is called a parking pawl. It's a pin that engages a notched ring
attached to the transmission's output shaft. The pin is spring loaded so that
it will skip engagement if you are still in motion. Doing this for too many times
will ruin the pin. Therefore, remember not to switch to park until you have your
car completely halted.
It's our responsibility to care for out automatic transmission. Hopefully these
tips could help you out. If you have any other tips, you're most welcome to
leave your comment below to share it with everyone.
